Seat of Government Surrender Act (NSW) Act 9 of 1915
Significance
This document, assented to by the Governor-General in 1915, provided for the transfer of 28 square miles of land at
Jervis Bay to the Commonwealth, in addition to the areas surrendered under the
Seat of Government Acceptance Act 1909 and the
Seat of Government Surrender Act 1909.
These areas became the Territory of Jervis Bay under the
Commonwealth Acceptance Act 1915.
History
This was a small reduction in the area of New South Wales, six years after the first transfer of territory for the seat of government. It was necessary following the establishment of the Royal Australian Naval College at Captains Point.
There was one further adjustment to the
Jervis Bay Territory in 1922 after Charles Scrivener advised on the correction of errors in the original surveys.
